the old coat hanger -the sydney harbour bridge - is a tremendously gorgeous icon of sydney. along with the sydney opera house, it easily makes up the most beautiful area of any city in the world. nothing is more spectacular than standing between the two near campbell's cove on an early summer evening, watching the flying foxes take off from the royal botanic gardens to fly out to the western suburbs where they eat the fruits of the cocos palms in suburban gardens. the three hoots of sydney ferries backing out from circular quay, the rumbling of a tangara crossing northbound, the place is absolutely perfect. gorgeous.
